Philip received his undergraduate degree in Geography, which led to him spending the next 6 years based in East Africa working on a mixture of community development, environmental, disaster management and food security projects with various NGOs. Wanting to specialise more in nutrition he obtained his MSc. in Public Health Nutrition at LSHTM in 2009. He spent two years after that working with Action Against Hunger setting up therapeutic feeding programmes to treat severe acute malnutrition in their emergency response team, followed by a couple of years with Valid International doing operational research in Ethiopia and India on acute malnutrition topics. He joined the MRC International Nutrition Group in December 2014 and is looking at nutrition and epigenetics in The Gambia for his PhD.
