Andrew Doel , hailing from Southampton UK, is a higher scientific officer currently based at the ING’s field station in Keneba, The Gambia. He took his first tentative steps into the world of science as an enthusiastic undergraduate student completing a Bsc in Biomedical Science in Leeds, UK. Following this he attended LSHTM to undertake the ‘Nutrition for Global Health’ MSc. Upon conclusion of his time at the school he relocated to Keneba where he has resided ever since.

His initial foray into the world of research was his Msc summer project working, alongside Dr Sophie Moore on a study aiming to address the issue of excess aflatoxin consumption in rural Gambian communities though use of a community based hand sorting approach. Soon after completion of his time at LSHTM he embarked upon his career proper working as the HSO on the ‘HERO-G’ project which aims to elucidate the key hormonal and epigenetic modulators of growth in infants across the first 1000 days of life.
